Good truth or dare questions are personal enough to get a reaction but light enough that nobody feels cornered, and the best dares are silly, quick and safe. Below are 80 original truths and dares sorted by group: friends, funny dares, deeper truths, clean picks for teens and bolder ones for adults.

How to play truth or dare
Can’t decide who goes first or what to ask? Spin the free truth or dare wheel. It picks truth or dare and a question for you, or try the dare wheel if your group only wants dares.
- Sit in a circle. Pick who goes first.
- Ask the player on your left: “Truth or dare?”
- Truth: they answer the question honestly. Dare: they do the challenge.
- The player who just went asks the next person. Keep going around the circle.
Before you start, agree on two rules: everyone gets a couple of passes, and anything that makes someone genuinely uncomfortable is skipped, no questions asked.
A few house rules that keep the game moving:
- Pass penalty. If you pass, you take a small penalty instead, like doing ten squats or letting the group pick your next dare.
- No repeats. A question that’s already been asked is off the table for the rest of the night.
- Asker answers too. For truths, the person asking can be required to answer the same question afterward. It keeps questions fair.
It works with as few as three people, but four to eight is the sweet spot. Bigger groups can split into two circles.

Truth or dare over text
Playing in a group chat or over the phone? Dares have to work without a camera, so keep them to things you can prove with a screenshot or a message.
Truths
- What was the last thing you searched for?
- Who was the last person you texted, and what did you say?
- What is the most embarrassing song on your playlist?
- What is the longest you have gone without replying to a message?
- Which emoji do you overuse the most?
Dares
- Send a voice note of you singing the chorus of a song to the group.
- Change your profile picture to a photo the group picks for one hour.
- Send the tenth photo in your camera roll, no deleting.
- Text a family member “I need to tell you something” and wait one minute before explaining.
- Write a three-line poem about the person above you in the chat.
Set a time limit (say five minutes) to answer, or the game stalls while someone is away from their phone.
Tips for a better round
- Mix truths and dares. If everyone keeps picking truth, add a rule that you can’t choose truth three times in a row.
- Keep dares short. Anything longer than a minute stalls the game.
- Stay inside the room. Skip dares that involve strangers, money, driving or anything risky. The fun comes from the group, not from the stakes.
Similar games you can play on one phone
Duoo doesn’t have a Truth or Dare game, but two of its games scratch the same itch. Never Have I Ever gets the confessions going without anyone being put on the spot, and Who’s Most Likely To lets the group vote on who fits each prompt. Both run on one iPhone passed around, work offline and fit 2 to 8 players. If you want lists to read from, see our Never Have I Ever questions and Who’s Most Likely To questions, or browse more party games for adults.
