105 Hot Seat Questions for Friends, Adults, Kids and Work

How to play the hot seat game

  1. Put one chair in the middle, or just pick a player. That person is in the hot seat.
  2. Set a timer for 60 to 120 seconds.
  3. Everyone else takes turns asking questions. The player answers as fast and honestly as they can.
  4. Each player gets one pass per turn. Use it wisely.
  5. When the timer ends, the next person takes the seat.

Agree on the tone before you start. A group of old friends can handle the adult section. A new team at work should stick to the work and funny questions.

Questions

How do you play the hot seat game? +

One player sits in the hot seat. Everyone else takes turns asking questions for 60 to 120 seconds, and the player has to answer quickly and honestly. When time is up, the next person takes the seat. Everyone gets one pass per turn.

What are good hot seat questions? +

Good ones are easy to answer but tell you something new, like "What is the most embarrassing song on your playlist?" or "Who in this room would you call at 3 a.m.?". Mix quick funny ones with one or two that need a real answer.

Are there hot seat questions for kids or the classroom? +

Yes. The kids section below is clean and works for classrooms, birthday parties and car rides. Kids often like playing as famous characters too: the person in the seat answers as that character.

What is the difference between hot seat and truth or dare? +

In truth or dare each player answers one question or does a dare. In the hot seat one person answers a fast run of questions from the whole group, with no dares. It is quicker and works better for groups that do not want to perform.

How do you use hot seat in an ESL or English class? +

Pick one learner to sit in front, and have the class ask questions that practise a target structure, such as the past simple or "would like". The seated student answers in full sentences, then the next student takes the seat. See the English class questions above for a ready-made list.
