Wavelength Board Game vs Online vs App: Which Should You Play?
The Wavelength board game is the best pick if you have a table and a group of four or more, because the physical dial is half the fun. Free online versions are best for playing over video calls. A Wavelength-style app or browser dial is best when you want to start right now on one phone, play with two people or play offline. Here is how they compare, and a free Wavelength-style game you can play on this page.

The Wavelength board game
Wavelength was designed by Alex Hague, Justin Vickers and Wolfgang Warsch. The box has a big plastic dial with a sliding screen, a spinning target and a deck of double-sided spectrum cards.
Why people love it: turning a real dial and pulling the screen back together is a great moment at a party, and it plays well with big groups split into two teams.
Downsides: you need the box with you, it takes some table space, and the cards eventually repeat for groups who play a lot.

Browser versions come in two kinds: room-based games where everyone joins from their own phone or laptop, and one-screen versions you pass around. The first kind is best for long-distance friends on a video call. The second is quickest for people in the same room.
The dial at the top of this page is the one-screen kind: no account, no download, a sample of spectrum cards from our app, and scoring built in.
Wavelength-style apps
An app is the easiest option when you’re already together and nobody brought a board game. Same Wave in the Duoo app works offline on one phone, has more than 300 spectrum cards across nine categories (from Everyday Life and Relationships to Pop Culture, Food & Drink, Hot Takes and Spicy) and plays cooperatively, so it works just as well for two as for eight. Duoo also has 14 other party games, like Imposter and Would You Rather, in the same app.

Questions
Is there a free Wavelength game online? +
There are several free Wavelength-style games in the browser. The one on this page is free, needs no account and is made for one phone passed around a room. For remote play, look for a version with online rooms so everyone can join from their own device.
Is there a Wavelength app? +
There are Wavelength-style party game apps. Duoo includes Same Wave, a cooperative Wavelength-style game with over 300 spectrum cards that works offline on iPhone. It is not the official Wavelength game.
Is the Wavelength board game worth buying? +
If you play board games with a group regularly, yes: the dial and screen are satisfying and it works for big groups. If you mostly play with two people, on the go or over video calls, a phone or online version fits better.
